Reginald

The Essential Reginald

Reginald stands near diagrams. He does not understand them. Nobody does. That is fine.

He was originally called Gary in the memory architecture art, but Gary is the ambiguous quadruped (donkey/moose/existential crisis). Reginald is something else entirely. Reginald is the one who opens the documentation, sees boxes with arrows between them, and feels nothing but a faint warmth where understanding should be.

Physical Description

Small humanoid. Pointy features (ears? hair? unclear). Dot eyes. Chunky body with arms that hang at sides. Legs that go straight down. The posture of someone who has been looking at a whiteboard for forty minutes and is now too committed to admit they're lost.

Relationship to Diagrams

Reginald exists in proximity to flowcharts, architecture diagrams, system maps, and any visual representation of how things connect. His function is to not understand them. This is not a failure. It is his role. Every system needs someone who looks at it and goes "???" because that person represents the honest response to complexity.

Not to Be Confused With

Gary ༼;´༎ຶ۝༎ຶ༽ — the ambiguous quadruped who stands there forever (or until Tuesday). Gary is existential. Reginald is confused. Existential and confused are neighbours but they live in different houses.

Origin

Born in the memory architecture Shrigley art series (Feb 9, 2026). Originally misnamed "Gary" in the voiceover script because the art file was called 08-gary-reviews.txt. Briefly called Derek. Then Reginald. Because Reginald is the name of someone who's been standing near a whiteboard since 1987.
